i have moved into a different room in my apartment. this was two weeks ago, and i've gotten very comfortable with it in the meantime.
the reason is that my friend is moving in in twelve (!!!!!) days and i'm (insisting on) letting him have the big room that was previously my bedroom, because i feel that it suits his needs so much better in so many ways than the other room does. it has a south-facing window, which i imagine will be better during the winter for light reasons; it has curtains, so it's properly dark in there at night; it's bigger (which i feel he cares more about than i do. i like a small cozy space, as long as my things all fit in there); and most importantly, it has a big wardrobe he'll need for his one william clothes (i have like 5 things). plus, i thought it'd feel wasteful to have a big room like that lie dormant for 5 months while i'm (mostly) away for my internship.
so, a few weeks ago, i finally confronted the chamber of terrors that was this tiny little room in my apartment that was initially meant to be an office but i have literally never used as such because i live and work in my bed, and tidied it up, cleaned it out, and also finally took apart the half-glass vitrine that the previous tenant left behind and that i never really liked and also whose glass-shelf-boards broke and shattered months ago. the real work of this disassembly was removing the mirror that covered the entire back of it:
it was not an elegant endeavour. the thing was glued on, so i broke it off piece by piece by hammering a (flat) screwdriver in between mirror and wood. this worked well enough, though it was messy and exhausting, and not to worry, i was careful and didn't hurt myself at all.
and now i have a bunch of pretty solid wood-adjacent material and ironware for making stuff out of (like a bathroom cabinet, or bookshelf-boards, or a door for an existing, doorless shelf. or all three.) and the glass and mirror...i'll have to figure out how to dispose of that.
thus, the room was ready to be furnished. that same evening i set up a new shelf/dresser that now holds a portion of my books, my stereo, and my less bulky clothes (tshirts and the like). it fits perfectly behind the door, as i had specifically bought it to do so.
my plan, really, had been to move in maybe a day or two before my friend's arrival. but now that the room was all ready (and i was caught up in the momentum of this whole refurnishing project), i couldn't really wait, and so, the next day, i moved my bed and assorted furniture into that room, really committing to living in there from this point forward.

| freshly furnished. happens to fit perfectly |
it took a bit of getting used to, particularly because the bed now has a wall to its left side when before, it'd been to its right, so now i have to lie differently to face the room. but it's nice. as i said, i like a small cozy room. and rn i like having the stereo across the room from the bed, the sound is nice in here and i've been using it much more frequently than before.
a few days ago, then, i at last was able to decorate a little, as i finally bought some new tape, so i could hang up my shit on the wall:
there is more, but it's mostly large posters and i wanna hold off on hanging those until the room is fully furnished (i'm still missing the desk that i'll borrow from my friend for the year).
i am extremely excited for the coming year. and i'm happy that i feel at home in this room, i was really somewhat unsure whether i'd be able to turn it into something i'd like hanging out in. but it all worked out. and now i'm just looking forward to seeing how things will be when there are two of us living in this place.

a lovely perk of my new bedroom: it's west-facing, so i get goldenhour lighting onto my wall :-) |

in smaller news, i baked a cheesecake. i'd been heavily thinking about and yearning for cheesecake for a while now, and yesterday, i finally made one. this comes perfectly at the dawn of a rather (up to very) hot weekend (38 degrees today....), so i'll have a lovely cold treat on the ready.

| my gorgeous treat |
i made it with canned manderines (for an extra bit of freshness) and with sliced (?) almonds instead of the usual piecrust (becuase i hateee the texture of shortcrust and i don't think it adds anything to a cake, especially such a filling-heavy type as cheesecake), so it's pretty much just a mousse-type dessert now. as it should be. turned out a bit pale but that's just aesthetics. tastes sooo good.
i hope you have an awesome treat today. you deserve it.
