i have survived this heatwave. we are back to normal warm temperatures in the mid to high 20s and things aren't all warmed up anymore. i am also getting back into sewing.
idk when it started. on friday, maybe. or thursday. yeah. in a late-night i-need-to-finally-get-started-on-this-project-fever, i ordered many euros worth of fabrics et al for some pants i've been wanting to make. the plan is to take the kite pants pattern from matchy matchy sewing club and sew one pair of that normally, and another pair that will be reversible, with different colours on either side. on the latter i also wanna try this grid embroidery (?) for some visual texture and to hold the two fabric layers together:
i think i've got all the alterations figured out that i need to make for the reversible pair to work. since the kite pants don't have a closure, i think it's just the pockets i need to sort out. and i think that's just basically treating both fabric layers as their own pair of pants around the area of the front pockets and sewing the pockets in normally. and since i'm using linen and the pants will be loose fitting, it shouldn't get too bulky either. we shall see.
and then on friday i started a smaller, secret sewing project that i finished today and turned out quite satisfactory. it's a gift, so i cannot show you but i might when i can. i just need to remember to do a little photoshoot.
but since this secret sewing project required some drafting and handsewn mockupping and re-drafting and some handsewn construction and finally some embroidery, i needed some company, so i've been binging all the interesting Bernadette Banner-videos my youtube algorithm fed me while working on that thang. if you are at all interested in historical dress, -reconstruction, and -sewing, i highly recommend perusing her channel. it's very nerdy in the historical aspect and also super helpful in developing your sewing, while not being tutorials -- you just pick up lots of stuff here and there as you follow along as Bernadette documents her processes. just the other day i had an epiphany about how i'll do my seam finishing on the reversible pants bc she used a technique that completely covers/envelopes the raw seam edges in one of her videos. so yea. and even if you don't sew at all, her videos are also just very relaxing to watch. and made me feel like i had a kind of sewing companion when i was working on my thang over the past few days.

that's all i've got today. that's all i've been doing. sewing my secret thing. and playing tomodachi.
i'm in a bit of a post-semester-void. when after months of being busy, suddenly there is nothing at all to do. i find myself sitting around not knowing what to do with myself. so i'm looking forward to having these pants to work on soon (my materials are set to arrive tomorrow and i'll get to print out the pattern on friday). i only really have to get through july -- august will be busier again, with my friend moving in and a festival we're going to and a doctor's appointment and our first house apartment party as roommates. i should start taking some hours out of my day to read.
okay, bye now, people in my puter. take care of yourselves <3
p.s.: oh, i also unfortuately did not manage to get tickets for the hard launch show. seems i underestimated the demand, they were sold out within the 10 minutes i was late to the website because i'd been distracted by something else. ah well. maybe some other event in the future.
